A fire that has lasted for nearly 40 hours across 130 hectares of forest were extinguished Saturday morning in east China's Fujian Province, local authorities said.
The flames in Shaxian County, about 270 km from the provincial capital Fuzhou, were put out at 3 a.m., said Hong Mingde, vice mayor of Sanming City. "There is no more spark in the forest of Shaxian County."
More than 3,000 people, including police officers, firemen and villagers, were mobilized to put out the flames which broke out at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday and covered 10 villages in the strong wind.
The fire was controlled Friday morning, but wind reignited several smoldering fires in the afternoon.
The fire cut power supplies to the Sanming section of two railway lines and delayed 26 trains and temporarily blocked traffic on two highways.
The local government evacuated 11 people who lived close to the site. No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials are checking in the forest to make sure there are no smoke or sporadic sparks.
"Rain was forecast Saturday," said Sun Zhagen, deputy head of the State Forestry Administration.
